Job Description

Woodward Resource Center, a State of Iowa Health & Human Services (HHS) facility, is seeking a Painter 1 to join our team. As a Painter 1, you will be responsible for painting and finishing various surfaces of buildings and structures on our campus.

What You'll Do:

• Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for application of paint, varnish, sealers, stain, and waterproofing materials.

• Select and apply appropriate product for surfaces.

• Maintain inventory of all supplies and equipment.

• Work with a variety of staff to ensure the proper color selection.

• Assist other tradespeople or departments as needed.

• Perform related duties as required.

Key Competencies:

Successful candidates for this position will demonstrate the following competencies:

• Climb ladders or steps, stand, bend, stoop and move about.

• Work in adverse weather conditions.

• Lift and carry 50 lbs. or more.

• Follow directions and work independently.

• Use safety precautions and equipment in the painting trades.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in skilled painting work;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting the completion of one term of study in a painter's course at a recognized trade school for each six months of the required experience;

OR

the successful completion of two years of an approved painter's apprenticeship program;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to one year as a Trades Helper which involved painting duties.
