Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Summer Ventures Master Teacher is the co-instructor for a non-credit course taught by a

UNCW faculty for the Summer Ventures program.

Duties include working with faculty to prepare instructional materials for the course that is appropriate for high school students; supervising high school students engaging in research projects, writing research papers, and preparing scientific presentations; managing student behavior and expectations for course performance; working with graduate student assistant to ensure any lab spaces are properly set up for instruction; maintains communication with Summer Ventures administrative office to ensure all student documents are complete and course instructional supply needs are met; drives course vans to field sites for course instruction.

SVSM Students will check in on Sunday, June 23, 2024; final presentations are scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2024. Presence is required at student orientation and final presentations; orientation occurs on June 23, 2024, and the final student research symposium takes place on July 20, 2024. General hours of work are 8:15 AM - 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in science or education
  • High school STEM teacher

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Research experience

Required Certifications or Licensure

  • Teaching licensure
  • Drivers license
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
