YMCA of the Inland Northwest Summer Day Camp Site Director in Spokane, Washington

POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The School Age/Day Camp Site Director maintains a supportive, positive learning atmosphere for youth to participate in and practice YMCA values of Honesty, Respect, Caring, and Responsibility. The School Age/Day Camp Site Director continuously ensures activities are appealing and connecting with youth in the community, and that staff are supporting and nurturing participants.

**Openings available immediately, prior to the start of summer day camp

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Oversees the program, activities, and staff for the assigned location. Responsible for maintaining an eye-catching event calendar for the program and developing engaging curriculum for before/after school programs and day camps serving excited school age children.
  2. Supervises and creates a positive rapport with youth, modeling relationship-building skills with participants and staff assisting with program activities.
  3. Nurtures children through culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and purposeful programming, making ADA accommodations when appropriate.
  4. Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
  5. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress, connecting families to the Y programs and special events.
  6. Attends bi-weekly site director meetings and travels to schools in the local area to promote and lead before and after school programming.
  7. Follows all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law, state licensing and the Y. Reports and maintain proper documentation of incidents/accidents as they occur
  8. Maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records, to ensure a safe and prepared learning space for youth.

* QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with 12 college credits in the field of education or related to school age children. Another 18 credits must be received within five years
    1. Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Upon job offer, must register in MERIT system, apply for a Portable Background Clearance and Fingerprints, and complete program-specific trainings.
    1. Ten STARS hours must be completed each year
  • Previous experience working with children in a camp or after school setting preferred.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Proof of MMR vaccination required for this position.

*STARTING PAY: *$17.50/hr
