Overview:

The Senior Director, Internal Communications, will be responsible for leading the overall strategy to elevate and drive consistency across our internal messaging. The individual will play a critical role in ensuring effectiveness of all communication channels and content ensuring engagement from employees and deepening the understanding of the business strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Execute Internal Communications Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy aligned with the company's mission and objectives.

  • Drive consistency in messaging and ensure alignment with the company's values, culture, and brand.

  • Identify and utilize appropriate communication channels to reach and engage employees effectively.

  • Lead standardization across communications to drive consistency and developing templates to minimize the editing process.

  • Align with the translation leader on translation strategy for planned content.

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Lead and manage a team of internal communicators, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.

  • Set clear expectations of colleague contributions, monitor performance, and provide regular feedback to ensure the team's success.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Oversee Editorial Strategy and Content Creation:

  • Provide strategic guidance for the comprehensive editorial strategy for internal platforms including intranet and digital signage, ensuring alignment with business strategy and target audience needs.

  • Connect content calendar with key company events to drive maximum impact of content.

  • Guide cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize content themes, topics, and formats that resonate with our audience.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve the intranet's content strategy.

  • Ensure engaging and informative content for the intranet, including articles, posts, videos, infographics, and other multimedia format that drives understanding of the business strategy.

  • Coordinate with colleagues across Corporate Affairs to understand business and functional priorities and incorporate into content curation.

Metrics:

  • Establish metrics and analytics to create an effective measurement framework to evaluate effectiveness of internal communications channels and messaging in supporting colleague engagement.

  • Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Leader communicators, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather input, feedback, and insights to inform content creation and communication strategies.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, providing guidance on communication best practices and strategies.

Internal Initiatives:

  • Play a lead role in key initiatives to ensure the internal communications needs are considered.

  • Influence the outcomes by providing effective internal communications consultation.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 15+ years of professional experience in employee communications in Pharmaceuticals or other highly regulated industry.

  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, content creation, channel strategy and digital media best practices, including how to adapt and optimize content delivery across channels and audiences.

  • Strong leadership of, and collaboration with, internal team members and cross-functional partners at all levels of the organization.

  • Proven experience designing and executing communications strategies in coordination with business partners in support of enterprise priorities.

  • Acute business acumen and a deep understanding of organizational issues and how to resolve challenges among competing workstreams.

  • Strong strategic planning, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Self-directed with proven ability to meet tight deadlines and balance multiple initiatives with competing priorities.

  • High level of influence, accountability, responsibility, and ability to influence at the senior level.

  • Proven experience working in a matrixed environment and operate within a complex, fast-paced and changing environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. Master's degree and/or change management certification a plus.

BMS has a diverse occupancy structure that determines where an employee is required to conduct their work. Site-essential roles require 100% of shifts onsite at your assigned facility. Site-by-design roles may be eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at your assigned facility.
