Statement of the Job:

The Head Men’s and Women’s Track Coach is a 12-month position that reports directly to the Executive Director of Athletics. This position will serve as the Head Men’s and Women’s Track teams and assume all duties of a head coach at the NCAA Division III level. This position will also manage the day-to-day operations of Caroline Gentile Health and Physical Education Complex to ensure it is operational and safe for our campus community and greater Presque Isle community members, taking a service excellence approach to customer service. This position will contribute to creating and maintaining equity within the athletics department. This position will assist with other departmental needs as assigned, including game management responsibilities.

Essential Duties:

The responsibilities of the coach shall include, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Recruit and retain student athletes, maintaining a healthy track roster with the ability to fulfill NCAA minimum requirements each year for each team.

  • Coordinate and supervise Track Home Meets.

  • Help coordinate use of our course with our facilities manager and PIHS/PIMS.

  • Coordinate with other departments and external contacts as needed.

  • Represent department and university to both internal and external contacts at professional meetings and other special or public events as well as on committees.

  • Serve as the Assistant Director of Gentile:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the complex.

  • Coordination and promotion of facility with academic, NCAA, community, and student programs. This includes rentals of the facility to outside sources to help increase revenue.

  • To supervise, schedule, evaluate, select, and discipline as necessary, all regular, temporary, and work study personnel.

  • Ensure that all safety practices and procedures are practiced and followed.

  • Evaluate the condition of athletic equipment to ensure safety for our students and gym members.

  • Updating of the Gentile website.

  • Assist when needed with aquatics operations.

  • Service on a variety of campus and system committees and groups as requested.

  • Ensure memberships are effectively being used and processed, along with necessary paperwork and waivers.

  • Keeping compliant with all campus, system, local, state, and federal laws, mandates, and polices.

  • To perform other duties as may be assigned by Executive Director of Athletics & Recreation.

    Additional responsibilities of the Head Coach shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Daily coaching (practice and games)

  • Build the athletic program/team through recruiting.

  • Anticipated athlete and team outcome

  • Administrative tasks associated with coaching.

  • Public relations and professional development

    Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the salary range is mid-$40,000's plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan.     Qualifications:

    Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Previous track coaching experience or related experience.

  • Equitable appreciation of all sports.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deal with a variety of people in a courteous, tactful, and efficient manner.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.

  • Possess superior organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to maintain the day-to-day operations of a dynamic athletic facility.

  • Ability to recruit, retain, and maintain healthy sports rosters to meet sport sponsorship.

  • Valid driver's license; must have the ability to travel for extended amounts of time for athletic contests.

    Preferred:

  • Experience working with student-athletes in an academic setting.

  • Experience managing athletic facilities.

  • Previous NCAA coaching experience.

  • Previous collegiate playing experience.

  • Familiarity with NCAA standards, rules, and regulations.
