Engineering Technician 1- The starting salary is $11.72/hourly with an additional $1.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2- Starting salary is $13.42/hourly with an additional $1.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3- Starting salary is $15.37/hourly
Engineering Technician 4- Starting salary is $17.60/hourly.
*Shift Differential in the amount of $2.00/hr. for all hours worked after 6:00 pm and before 6:00 am
*This position will require you to work nights and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
70% Utilizes a thorough knowledge and understanding of Department procedures, policies, standards and specifications in the inspection of construction work and/or in the completion and/or processing of construction-related documents such as field diaries and partial and final estimates. Enters construction, project data into appropriate computer database or application (SiteManager & LIMS). Applies DOTD engineering policies and procedures to normal work situations in the Project Engineers Office and/or at construction sites. Serves as primary construction inspector in area or areas of specialization or certification. Determines sample requirements for area(s) of expertise. Verifies elevations/alignments work for surveys. Reviews haul tickets to determine if loads are in compliance with authorized/approved load quantities/volume. Prepares work reports, estimates quantities, and performs mathematical calculations necessary to complete paperwork. May serve as the primary asphalt plant technician.
20% Completes required training classes and receives on-the-job training in performing construction inspection and completing necessary documentation and/or paperwork. May also provide on-the-job training or assistance to newer or lower level technicians and/or consultant personnel. Attend preconstruction and progress meetings when designated as primary construction inspector for a project. Determines anticipated quantities and provides construction insight for projects in design phase.
5% May perform additional duties as necessary to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the Project Engineer’s office.

Examples of Work at the Engineering Technician 1 level:
Tasks assigned to Engineering Technician 1’s are generally basic and routine in nature. ET 1’s receive close supervision and regular instruction/guidance from higher-level engineering technicians and/or professional engineers.
- Becomes familiar with Department procedures, policies, standards, specifications.
Works side-by-side with higher level engineering technicians and/or professional engineers to complete assigned tasks.
Performs very basic sub professional engineering tasks such as:
Assisting in measuring surface areas of work to be performed by the contractor
Working as a chainman/rodman in a survey party
Writing haul tickets
Collecting and totaling quantities from haul tickets for materials delivered by truck to construction projects (materials include asphalt, aggregates, etc.)
Weighing construction materials such as asphalt
Assisting the Asphalt Plant Technician in the inspection of asphalt plants
Making concrete cylinders
Assisting higher-level technicians with measurements and field tests such as moisture-density
Entering quantities into the ESTI, MATT or SiteManager system.
Maintaining project files
Examples of Work at the Engineering Technician 2 Level:
As ET’s progress to the second level in the training series, the tasks and duties assigned become a little more complex. Although supervision and instruction is readily available from higher-level engineering technician and professional engineers, technicians at this level are expected to complete the basic or routine tasks independently. Supervision may be required for more complex assignments.
Becomes more familiar with DOTD engineering policies and procedures and applies them to routine sub professional engineering tasks such as:
Assisting more experienced technicians in the sampling and testing of construction materials
Inspecting minor and simple work performed by the contractor
Working as a head chainman or instrument man in a survey party
Measuring and computing areas and volumes for estimates of pay quantities
Preparing daily work diaries or field book entries
Compiling weekly reports, maintaining files and sampling schedule
Assisting higher-level technicians with computation of partial and/or final estimates
Serving as an inspector for minor construction activities (e.g., fencing and drain structures)
Assisting higher-level technicians in various phases of roadway or bridge construction
Examples of Work at the Engineering Technician 3 Level:
Technicians at this level are expected to be well versed in DOTD policies and procedures. Incumbents at this level generally do not need close supervision and may even begin to assist lower-level technicians in completing assigned projects. Assistance from higher-level technicians and professional engineers may be required for more complex assignments.
Maintains a working knowledge of DOTD engineering policies and procedures and applies them to a variety of increasingly-complex sub professional engineering tasks such as:
Performing inspection duties in an area of specialization or certification such as Portland cement concrete, asphaltic concrete, asphalt plant, roadway, embankment and base course, etc.
Verifying elevations/alignments of construction survey work
Preparing work reports, estimating quantities and performing complex calculations needed to complete partial and/or final estimates.
Maintaining certification in area of expertise
Coordinating project dairy and field book entry
Entering project data into computer
Compiling project information and required reports for review by Project Engineer and forwarding required documents to headquarters
Composing routine change order estimate correspondence
