UPMC Part- Time Acupuncturist - Magee Women's Hospital (24 hours/week) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC is hiring a Part-time Acupuncturist to join their Women’s Cancer Program based at UPMC Magee Women’s Hospital! This position will provide acupuncture care to oncology patients both in treatment and in remission. This position is part time and will work 24 hours per week daylight. No evenings, weekends, or holidays! Hours/schedules can be flexible.

Provide acupuncture and Oriental medicine therapy services to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) patients/clients. Perform or prescribe the use of acupuncture, oriental massage, acupressure, nutrition, diet and additional practices of complementary and alternative medicine as delineated under Pennsylvania acupuncture licensure to promote, maintain, and restore health.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in PM&R quality assurance programs.

  • Perform and document initial health history, assessment and evaluation of patient/client.

  • Perform and document all sessions performed according to established guidelines.

  • Effectively communicate with the PM&R interdisciplinary team. Attend and contribute to PM& R care conferences. Consult with appropriate treatment staff regarding treatment plans when necessary.

  • Provide acupuncture and complementary and alternative medicine to PM&R patients/clients that are safe, appropriate and effective.

  • Maintain patient/client confidentiality and sensitivity during all patient/client interactions; report any unusual patient/client interactions to supervisor immediately.

  • Follow clinic procedures in regards to completion of acupuncture consent forms.

  • Practice appropriate acupuncture techniques.

  • Effectively communicate and explain procedures appropriate to patient/client needs and preferences.

  • Develop, review, update and implement educational materials to meet the needs of patients/clients, the general public, and professionals.

  • Successful graduation from an acupuncture college or training program that is approved by the Pennsylvania Acupuncture Licensing Board.

  • 30 hours of continuing education in acupuncture over the last 2 year period.

  • 1 year experience providing acupuncture services or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Knowledge of complementary and alternative medicine, theory, principles, techniques and methods. Strong organization and communication skills.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Acupuncturist

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
