Disability Network Washtenaw Monroe Livingston Community Support Specialist in Monroe, Michigan

Our client is seeking a dedicated Community Support Specialist to join their team. This role will be instrumental in providing a continuum of consumer and community-based information & referral (I&R) and independent living (IL) services across Disability Network Washtenaw Monroe Livingston (DNWML) service areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Independent Living Services including time management, healthy relationships, boundary setting, social network building, cooking, travel, and financial management.
  • Utilize Peer Support, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Planning approaches to assist constituents in achieving independent living and economic self-sufficiency goals.
  • Coordinate access to community resources essential for achieving consumer IL goals and maintaining social support.
  • Design, develop, implement, and manage social and leadership groups, programs, and opportunities for consumers.
  • Collaborate with others to develop community partnerships for leadership, system advocacy, and civic participation opportunities.
  • Provide Individual and Systems Advocacy, IL services, and assistance to parents, teachers, students, and schools as needed.

Requirements:

  • Degree: Associate's Degree (required), Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
  • Field Experience: 3 - 5 years of experience in Social Work, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, health-related field, and/or educational history. Personal experience with disability and/or knowledge of disability issues and the consumer/community-based IL philosophy.
  • Software Experience: Proficiency in standard office software including internet, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
  • Management Experience: No supervisory responsibilities.
