Job Title: Assisted Living Aide?Department:Courtyard Villa Assisted Living Center

Position Accountable To:Assisted Living Nurse Manager?FLSA:Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

To provide respectful care in assisting the elderly and frail elderly, to perform routine and delegated functions and assist in all areas the activities of daily living of resident care. Has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate resident care protocol relating to the physical and psychological needs of the elderly.Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability torespond to specific issues and data reflective of the resident/customer's status. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department.

Essential Job Functions:

Assist with appropriate transfers on assigned residents utilizing gait belts following guidelines outlined in the residents plan of care.

Assist the resident with all facets of daily living including dressing, grooming, toileting, meals, medications, housekeeping and laundry.

Bending, squatting and kneeling to assist residents with dressing.

Reportall changes in resident behavior or physical condition to nurse.

Assist in serving meals as necessary and on a timely basis.

Deliver meal trays to residents roomwhen deemed necessary.

Assist in daily or scheduled dining room cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Clean resident apartments and other areas of the facility in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Collect and wash soiled laundry, linens and return to resident apartments.Also launder aprons, towels, dishrags, and etc. from the Dietary department.

Assist residents to activities, assist with or direct activities.

Accept delegatedtasksfollow directions and take instruction regarding resident care from nurses, therapists, physicians and other members of the health care team involved with the resident plan of care.

Honor Resident Rights including confidentiality and privacy.

Reportall allegations of resident abuse or misappropriation of resident property to the Director of Community Based Services.

Promotes, adheres to and supports resident rights.

Wash resident dishes as well as hospital patients supper dishes.

Marginal Job Functions:

Participatein quality of care activities. Promotes and presents the Courtyard Villa Assisted Living Center and Hand County Memorial Hospital in a positive manner to co-workers and while in the general public.Maintainconfidentiality when dealing with data related to residents or co-workers.

Work Environment:

Working environment is indoors. Works with and around others, has verbal contact and face to face contact with others. Staff may potentially be exposed to blood and body fluids, and/or exposed to communicable disease. Moves and works throughout the facility. Staff may subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors. Staff is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors and reactions to dust, disinfectants and other air contaminants, handling and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Staff will have frequent interruptions. Staff may be asked to work beyond the normal working hours; and are subject to call-back during emergency conditions. Normal shifts are from 0700 to 1930 and 1900 to 0730.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Works with scales, wheelchairs, med carts, gait belts, ovens,hot sealer,dishwashers, linen hampers, washers, dryers, housekeeping carts, vacuum cleaners, mops, tuband shower chairs, devises that promote functional living for the residents, thermometers, stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs.

Education:

High School diploma preferred or in process of graduation. GED accepted. Successful completion of medication administration class for unlicensed assistive personnel is preferred.

Licenses/Certifi ates:

CPR certification per policy required. Certification, as nurse assistant, is desired. Medication administration certification preferred.

Experience:

Prefer previous experience in working with people and in demonstrating respect to others.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

Require the ability to be attentive to the needs of others, the ability to be organized and notice details regarding the residents, the ability to be open to new learning experiences and in learning new methods. Need the ability to assist in the orientation of new employees, and in sharing knowledge with others.

Responsibility/Supervision:

The position works under the supervision of an RN, performs assigned duties as delegated, follows established nursingprocedures, seeks guidance when in doubt, reports pertinent information, requires emotional stability and adaptability to meet demands of the situation.
