Job Description

The Iowa Veterans Home is looking to a hire Cook 2. This position will be responsible for providing leadership and training for backup cooks, Cook 1s and Food Service workers who are serving the meals. You will assist the supervisor by instructing employees, answering questions, and supervising tray line for appropriate serving and scoop sizes, plate presentation and maintaining proper holding temperatures throughout meal service. Provide guidance and direction to back-up cooks on proper internal cooking temperatures, hand hygiene, and sanitation practices to meet food safety standards.

Duties will include training new cook 1 and back-up positions, providing support to cook/staff in planning and food preparation as well as following menu. Assist supervisor in reporting performance concerns and balancing work load.

Hours will be 4:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to two years of full-time work in quantity food production in a commercial, military, hospital or institutional setting;

OR

successful completion of a military, vocational or community college program in commercial cooking and one year of qualifying experience;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time experience as a Cook 1.
