Cesar Chavez Foundation Staff Accountant in Keene, California

SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is responsible for monitoring accounting and fiscal activity. Duties include traditional general ledger and accounting duties and responsibilities. These duties include completion of complex analysis of financial accounting and budgeting information, maintenance of general ledger and chart of accounts, balance sheet account analysis and reconciliations, production and analysis of periodic financial statements, monitoring of all general accounting activities, fiscal compliance, preparation for and support of financial and OMB audits, conducting internal audits as assigned, completing special assignments, and attending to other accounting duties as assigned. The Staff Accountant works with other accounting personnel to ensure accurate data collection, review and verification and ensures compliance with fair accounting standards

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITLITIES:

  • Develops, produces and analyzes balance sheet, income statement and ad hoc financial statements ensuring statements accurately present a fair representation for the period

  • Monitors the accounting processes throughout the assigned companies, funds and properties

  • Reviews and tracks program and corporate financial information ensuring an accurate representation of reality and compliance with all applicable accounting principles and standards.

  • Analyzes and reconciles various balance sheet and income statement account information on a regular basis. Recommends and implements action as necessary to correct irregularities.

  • Regularly interfaces with Fund operations and other accounting personnel in order to stay fully informed regarding financial and accounting information.

  • Responsible for financial and agency audit preparation, compliance and support.

  • Responsible for preparation of periodic financial reports to local, County, State and/or Federal agencies.

  • Responsible for accurate maintenance of fixed assets and depreciation schedules.

  • Responsible for development and implementation of routine and complex cost allocations.

  • Responsible for periodic adjusting entries and account analysis.

  • Creates templates and spreadsheets as necessary to facilitate data collection and accurate data presentation.

  • Regularly communicates with internal and external sources regarding a variety of financial and accounting issues.

  • Participates in special projects as assigned.

  • Responds to questions from internal and external sources regarding financial and audit information.

  • Displays regular and reliable attendance. Reports to and departs from work on time, as scheduled.

  • Successfully functions as a team member.

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains professional currency by reading appropriate publications, attending seminars, and other training, as necessary.

  • Consults with Fund Vice Presidents, Department Directors, fund management and external agency personnel on a regular basis in order to ensure open communication.

  • Demonstrates initiative by identifying potential problems and recommending reasonable solutions.

  • Proactively recommends process improvements in an effort to eliminate redundancy, reduce labor costs and/or increase efficiency.

  • Completes all assigned duties within the time frame and according to the standards as established by the Controller.

  • Complies with all CCF and program rules, policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth by attending in-service trainings and staff development programs, and seeking out supervision when needed.

  • Demonstrates adequate care and responsibility for equipment. Reports and/or repairs missing or damaged equipment and supplies.

  • Ensures facilities upkeep and safety by maintaining neat and clean work areas, by securing work area at close of business day.

  • Familiar with and understands Cesar Chavez Foundation Personnel Policy manual and follows all established personnel policies.

  • Follows administrative chain of command.

  • Reads memos, directives, meeting minutes, and revised policies and procedures as posted.

  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

    JOB RELATED QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Procedure manuals and an ability to interpret these effectively.

    EDUCATION and WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Four-year college degree in Finance or Accounting.

  • A minimum of four years accounting experience, including two years of experience working with budgets and producing financial statements.

  • Intermediate knowledge and experience working in an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) or other multi-mode accounting software.

  • Intermediate to advanced experience in MS Windows-based operating system.
