Medical Assistant (MA) Urgent Care BMH Kalamazoo Part-Time, 10 AM to 10 PM (24 Hours/Week)

Overview

Working under the direction of a provider, the Medical Assistant performs general nursing functions for the practice. Responsibilities include recording vital signs and immunizations, performing initial patient assessments, obtaining concise patient histories, and providing clinical information and support to providers. Duties also involve updating patient charts, educating patients and families about medications and treatments, and making referrals. Direct patient care providers must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
  • CMA/CCMA/RMA certification.
  • Eligibility to take CMA/RMA, certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire/transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination, including assessments, histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and routine testing (hearing, vision, etc.).
  • Document pertinent information in patient charts and maintain documentation standards.
  • Administer treatments as requested by the physician.
  • Obtain specimens for testing (urine, phlebotomy, etc.) and perform laboratory tests as directed.
  • Assist physicians with procedures (laceration repair, pap/pelvic exams, etc.).
  • Schedule outside tests or procedures and coordinate patient admissions and referrals.
  • Maintain and stock exam rooms with supplies.
  • Conduct inventory of supplies and report needed items.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments in the EMR system.
  • Screen calls to determine urgency
