Job Description
The Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Team at Iowa Workforce Development is accepting applications for a full-time Rehabilitation Assistant role at our Iowa City Area Office. The successful candidate will work on a high performing team dedicated to serving the needs of individuals with disabilities to achieve their employment, independence, and economic goals.
Job Description
The Rehabilitation Assistant (RA) will serve in a dual customer service and clerical support role to perform a variety of tasks such as: front desk and phone work, responding to walk-in customer needs, gathering, and tracking program information, performing complex data entry, communication with vendors and job candidates on procurement items, and ensuring administrative and clerical process and procedures are followed according to programmatic standards. Tasks are approached with a sense of urgency to fulfill timeline obligations and to meet client and stakeholder needs.
The RA assists with ongoing appointment scheduling & facilitates collaborative communication with Job Candidates, Parents, Legal Guardian’s, Community Rehabilitation Providers, Schools, and Community Agencies to help aid in timely service delivery. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize office needs in a fast paced, HIPAA covered work environment. Experience navigating high pressure situations with kindness, tact, & diplomacy is a must.
Applicants should be comfortable using general office tools including Google Suite, case management software, cell phones, VPN, AdobeSign and Web conferencing platforms. Experience using general office tech & web-based calendars in a professional setting is required. Applicants should feel comfortable navigating a variety of computer-based programs to complete work assignments.
The RA supports employment services for a diverse population experiencing a range of disability and socioeconomic barriers. Applicants must enjoy helping others work through and demonstrate excellent inclusive communication skills. The RA serves job candidates directly and often conducts intake meetings. The RA also provides individualized employment services such as: mock interviewing activities, resume prep, career exploration and more.
The Rehabilitation Assistant will outreach to area businesses and collaborate with local WIOA partner agencies to strengthen workforce connections and placement opportunities.
Occasional travel may be required. Travel to Des Moines for training may be required as well. This is not a remote work position, and daily attendance in the office is expected. The successful candidate must be able to pass a criminal background check conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Two years of full-time work experience in a human services field which involved: customer service, contact with the public to either compile or provide information regarding services, the organization/management of confidential information, or the scheduling of appointments.
Two years of full-time work experience as a legal assistant/paralegal, medical office assistant, or job coach.
A combination of a total of two years of education and full-time experience (as described in either number one or two), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.
Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work in direct client/customer service in a clerical or administrative support capacity.
