Job Title: Sports Relationship Leader

Reports To: Sports Coordinator

Work Location: Hal Welsh East Area Family YMCA

Work Schedule: Weekday evenings & weekend mornings

Salary Range: $15.00/hour

General Functions:

Under the supervision of the Sports Coordinator, the Sports Relationship Leader carries out the supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the YMCA and Sports Department’s policies and procedures. Responsibilities include: Gym program supervision, nightly performance appraisal, and staff discipline; address member incidents, accidents, and issues on the floor; problem resolution; evening program supervision and management; enforce and document gymnasium policies and breakdowns in member and/or staff conduct; and ensure the safety of all program participants, members, and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

The Floor Supervisor is responsible for performing the duties listed below. Duties are specific to the Program area and other duties may be assigned as needed.

Gymnasium Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership for our Program Area, and demonstrate loyalty to the department, branch, and all corresponding rules and policies.

  • Know and enforce Gym Rules in a consistent, fair and firm manner.

  • Supervise all gym activities (including programs) and be a preventative presence.

  • Respond to incidents, accidents, and emergencies appropriately, calmly, and professionally.

  • Supervise Gym Attendants and Program Assistants to ensure that they enforce building regulations and policies consistently, and are providing quality member service.

  • Actively pursue training opportunities and certifications with the YMCA relevant to this position. Maintain current certifications as required, including Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, AED, and First Aid.

  • Keep accurate records of incidents on a nightly basis for the Supervisor, including incidents pertaining to members and staff.

  • Provide support for Gym Attendants, and be their liaison to the RMOD.

  • Assume ownership of the Program Area, and the responsibility to uphold the Mission, Character Values, and philosophies of the YMCA and Y Sports.

  • Ensure that all court schedules are properly displayed and honored. Make adjustments, as they are required by the population.

  • Be visible, personable, and helpful.

  • Provide a safe and enjoyable recreational atmosphere for all to enjoy.

  • Helps maintain a well-organized office.

  • Process all required business paperwork in a timely fashion.

  • Attend all required Staff Meetings.

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed by the Supervisor.

Collaborative Relationships:

  • Assist other departments within the branch as needed while they utilize our Program Area.

Experience and Education:

  • High School Diploma.

  • At least one (1) year of supervisory and work related experience in a gymnasium environment.

Trainings & Certifications:

  • Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens and Employee Safety trainings prior to initial assignment to position.

  • Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90-days of employment.

  • Must hold CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications, YMCA Child Abuse Prevention, Listen First and Quality Service training within the first 90-days of employment.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Demonstrates and understand the importance of building relationships with members.

  • Demonstrates excellent planning and organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Effective interpersonal and communications (oral and written) skills.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with Members, Directors, Staff and Vendors.

  • Ability address complaints and concerns also analyze and solve problems.

  • Computer proficient with good time management skills.

  • Possess and maintain, or successfully complete within 90-days of hire the following trainings and/or certifications CPR, AED, YMCA Child Abuse Prevention, First Aid, and Activate America.

  • Possess strong experiences and skills in member services, staff supervision and training, leadership, and collaborative relationships.

  • Possess and demonstrate ability to: read, analyze, and interpret reports and documents such as financial reports, financial assistance forms and legal documents etc. Perform business-level mathematical, writing and computer skills. Develop and implement creative promotions and strategies. Work within a team.

Effective Return on Investment:

  • This position ensures the delivery of high quality mission and market driven programs and effective supervision of YMCA services in the areas of sports programs.

  • Ensure program activities meet the needs of the program participants are age appropriate, meet safety and YMCA standards at all times.

Physical Demands:

Hear noises and distress signals in a Health & Wellness environment with background noise and perform all needed rescues skills. Ability to frequently stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, swim, type, run, jump, kick, catch, throw, climb, kneel, bend, reach, balance, crouch or crawl, climb and/or balance, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, stoop, perform step, floor, kick box aerobics, cycle for approximately 60 minutes, climb stairs, lift/move and carry approximately 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required close, color, distance, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Able to respond appropriately to emergency situations.

Work Environment:

At times, the employee may be exposed to situations where injuries may occur. Frequently exposed to loud noise, background music and exposure to OSHA approved cleaning solutions. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions in conducting certain sporting events, and to wet and/or humid conditions in swimming pool areas.
