JOB SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a Fire Prevention Officer responsible for participating in a comprehensive fire prevention program; participates in the fire and life safety inspections, plan checks, and testing of hazardous processes and fire protection and extinguishing systems in specified occupancies to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, client policies, and standards; assist, as required, in related areas of fire prevention processes such as code interpretation, fire prevention/life safety training, report writing and record keeping; and other duties as assigned. This position will interface with all levels of employees and management.

  • All functions, duties or tasks are to be carried out in an honest, ethical and professional manner, and to be performed in conformance with applicable company policies and procedures. In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of company policies and procedures, employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representatives.
  • Inspects new and existing business, commercial, industrial, manufacturing, and hazardous occupancies for compliance to applicable codes IBC, IFC, NFPA, etc), ordinances, client polices, and regulations (OSHA, EPA, CDOT, etc).
  • Carries out inspections according to schedules, as needed, interfaces with client as well as all appropriate Municipal, State and Federal Agencies to ensure consistent and appropriate code enforcement.
  • Conducts test of extinguishing systems and commercial and industrial processes which may involve fire hazards in specified occupancies to ensure the level of fire protection is in compliance with applicable codes and standards. Interprets various codes, ordinances, and standards for the client and recommends fire protection systems which will meet appropriate requirements.
  • Conducts fire/life safety code compliance follow-ups to ensure that corrective actions have been taken where violations have been found. Inspect properties that store, handle, and use hazardous materials to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations.
  • May conduct or assist with plan reviews of all new or remodeling of client owned and/or leased buildings for compliance to applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Investigates complaints in reference to fire and life safety issues.
  • Determines compliance to applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations and enforces corrective action, where necessary. Information l feedback is provided to the client regarding the compliant. Discusses violations and unsafe conditions with facility representative; makes recommendations, and provides instruction in fire safety practices.
  • Will be required to shut down and restore fire protection and alarm systems.
  • Perform weekly fire pump testing and maintain test logs. As authorized, issues permits and acts to enforce facility fire protection standards.
  • Maintains fire prevention records and reports.
  • Prepares reports, such as inspections performed, standard violations, and recommendations for eliminating fire hazards.
  • Assist in conducting fire prevention/life safety public education programs.
  • Provides presentations and demonstrations to the general workforce population at various client facilities. May develop or review fire exit plans.
  • Conduct fire exit drills to monitor and evaluate evacuation procedures. Present and explain fire/life safety code and fire prevention information to client facility management.
  • May perform other inspection and safety duties as required for client facilities.
  • Attend training classes in order to maintain current knowledge of fire prevention, safety, and firefighting procedures.
  • Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for client facilities.
  • May be responsible to implement and/or update the site fire prevention plan.
  • May act as a liaison with local fire authorities to ensure fire code compliance.
  • Will be required to respond to hazardous materials events at the Awareness Level and initiate the appropriate response after scene size-up Respond to medical emergencies on-site and provide emergency medical care at the Emergency Medical Responder level as defined by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's National Scope of Practice Model.
  • May be responsible for developing and updating pre-fire plans for the facility. Perform daily DOT and NFPA 1911 inspections and testing of fire apparatus to include documentation and maintenance records. Performs other duties and/or assignments as directed by the SCIS management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY

Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position.

Background Prerequisites:

  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background and reference checks, controlled substance testing, and behavioral selection survey, in addition to any mandatory licensing requirements
  • No felony convictions No misdemeanor convictions within the last 7 years. Must be eligible to receive a DOD Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be 19 years of age at time of hire
  • Must be eligible for employment in the United States
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class C driver's license for the state of employment and residence
  • Must have clean driving record per MVR (10 year DMV printout may be required)
  • Successfully pass PGS company medical exam conducted by a licensed physician.

Education/Experience High School Diploma or G.E.D (Associate's Degree in Fire Technology preferred):

Must be a fire academy graduate from a State certified or Department of Defense certified training facility meeting the NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications training guidelines or possess a Firefighter I or Firefighter II certificate from a State Fire Marshal's office or from the Department of Defense adopted by the state where fire services are performed.
