Smithbucklin, a 650-person, employee-owned professional services company with more than 70 years of success serving the association market, is looking for aDirector of Regionsfor our Professional Societies and Communities unit in Chicago or Washington, DC.

The Director of Regions for theLegal Marketing Association (LMA)will have ownership for the analysis, strategy, planning, management, and execution of the operating rhythm for Regions and Local Steering Committees (LSC). Reporting to the Executive Director you will be the point of contact for eight Regions, 40+ LSCs, and 4,000 members who expect a high level of professionalism and a drive for excellence. The Director will identify opportunities to drive operational best practices for the Regions, build new ways of working to make teams more efficient and productive, and lead process improvement initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Evaluate strategies for increasing the value of Region membership, engaging and involving

  • Region Board Members, creating robust Region communities, and ensuring the Regions are providing a consistent, high quality Local experience.

  • Collaborate with the LMA Headquarters (HQ) senior leadership team to assist with operational and strategic direction on training programs needed to optimize Region performance; ensure systems and controls are in place as outlined in policy and procedure manuals.

  • Collaborate with LMA HQ senior leadership team in a variety of functional areas that support Regions and LSCs, including marketing, education, events, technology, operations, etc.

  • Serve as primary point of contact, advocate, and ambassador at LMA HQ for the Regional Leadership Committee (RLC); manage RLC meetings; lead and support the Regional Administrators and the RLC Chair.

  • Attend, support and actively participate in Board of Director’s meetings.

  • Identify opportunities for new services and delivery channels to meet Regional needs.

  • Track and report on information from Regions, LSCs, staff, and key volunteers for developing best practices.

  • Manage support staff, including professional development, as needed.

  • 20% travel anticipated to Annual Conference, Board Meetings, and Regional Events.

  • Perform other related dues as assigned by the Executive Director.

This Role Might Be for You If…

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, administration or related field, or relevant experience.

  • 8+ years business management/director experience.

  • Strong analytics and problem-solving skills.

  • Extensive, large-scale project management experience.

  • Solid understanding of the legal industry.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Candidate must exude leadership qualities and be able to demonstrate their abilities to deploy creative thinking and critical problem-solving skills.
