GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

This position involves all duties and responsibilities associated with transit vehicle operation. Duties include carrying out those functions pertaining to the safe and efficient operation of assigned vehicles on routine and/or special service routes and paratransit schedules. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate all types of buses assigned for the purpose of transporting passengers. Operate wheelchair lift and assist patrons to board and alight safely.
  • Memorize routes, transfer points, and fare structures. Adhere to time schedules and routes. Keep and report accurate passengers counts.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and is in strict compliance with Federal and Wyoming traffic laws and regulations as well as DOT rules and regulations. Maintain current knowledge of and adherence to all transit operating policies, directives, and procedures.
  • Conduct self in an appropriate manner, working effectively in a diverse work environment, using prudent judgement always and assuring professional quality of services to all. Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
  • Perform a complete and thorough pre-trip/post-trip and shift change inspection of bus and safety checks of equipment. Perform minor maintenance repairs as needed (fill washer fluid, add oil). Must be able to read chemical labels and follow safe handling procedures.
  • Clean (sweep, empty trash, clean headlights and taillights and interior windows) and fuel bus daily and as needed.
  • Complete accident/incident reports accurately and legibly, as necessary. Report hazardous or dangerous conditions along bus route and at passenger boarding areas, such as obstructions, construction, and potential criminal activity.
  • Provide information and general assistance to passengers and the public regarding transit policies, procedures and processes in a professional manner.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain confidentiality.

Attend work when scheduled, on a regular and dependable basis.

May be required to act in capacity of dispatcher.

Assist with special projects as necessary or assigned.
