Executive Director- Behavior Supports

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide oversight to the implementation of the settlement agreement between the CRCSD and the US Department of Justice.

  • Assist in leading the school learning organization by creating a climate and culture conducive to continuous improvement, student achievement, and social, emotional, and behavioral development.

  • Support the ongoing mission of the Cedar Rapids Community School District through active engagement and leadership in Professional Learning Communities and the Continuous Improvement process.

  • Positively impact the performance of employees through effective mentoring, coaching, supervision, and evaluation.

  • Develop and oversee implementation of District policies and procedures to assist employees and Crisis Prevention teams to appropriately respond to students in crisis.

  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of reports, assessments, and all other paperwork required.

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and recommending highly qualified staff.

  • Maintain a collaborative work environment with staff and agency personnel (Human Resources, transportation, nursing, food and nutrition, etc.)

  • Lead the design and delivery of professional learning activities aligned to crisis management and PBIS.

  • Maintain current knowledge of laws around crisis management and behavior for students with and without disabilities.

  • Oversee all Crisis Prevention training in the District.

  • Review and analyze Physical Restraint, Crisis Intervention, and other relevant data to assess discrepancies with expected process and procedures and work with staff to implement the remedies.

  • Identify and assess student and employee behaviors that are resulting in the use of Physical Restraint, develop strategies to address those specific issues, and work with staff to implement changes.

  • Create written reports that detail the steps that have been taken towards meeting the requirements of the Agreement.

  • Will be responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of all requested data to the Executive Director of Special Services and Student Supports, Deputy Superintendent, Superintendent, and Department of Justice.

  • Hold community informational sessions and serve as the contact for concerns related to restraint and seclusion.

  • Create an annual report for the public that will include a summary of the District’s data on Physical Restraint.

  • Establish and convey high expectations for himself/herself, all employees, students, and colleagues.

  • Engages effectively with parents and families as needed

  • Communicates and collaborates with Grant Wood Area Education Agency (GWAEA) and other outside agencies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Supervise the Coordinator of Behavior Supports

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/APTITUDES

  • Provide active communication and positive relationships with all stakeholders including students, parents, staff, administrators, and community members.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including proficiency in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and related communication skills, including proofreading, editing, and creating original documents.

  • Ability to work independently without supervision and as a team member

  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions, problem solve independently and with others, and take initiative.

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and assume responsibility.

  • Ability to take initiative, be creative, and generate enthusiasm in others.

  • Capable of representing the District in a professional manner, which includes but is not limited to confidentiality, collegiality, and the ability to obtain and utilize additional training, if necessary.

  • Aptitude for detail

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

A doctorate in school psychology, special education, or a closely-related field from an accredited institution

License: Professional Administrator

Endorsement: PK-12 Special Education Supervisor

Leadership experience in a large, urban school district preferred

Minimum of 3 years of experience writing and implementing FBAs and BIPs

Knowledge of and experience with students with behavioral disabilities

At least three years of experience in Applied Behavior Analysis or demonstrated

knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis through course work, training, or a Board

Certified Behavior Analyst license;

Extensive knowledge of crisis intervention and response systems

Experience training and supervising school-level staff, including School Administrators.

EMPLOYMENT DATE: Position begins 7/1/2024

SALARY: $140,000

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, reports, regulations, etc. Ability to effectively write reports and communications to administrators, colleagues, parents, students and staff. Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform basic mathematical functions. Ability to use spreadsheets and reporting documents that assist with the computation of data.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret and implement a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff and students. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and forward 0 -24 inches and on occasion up to 36 inches. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp items. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 - 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet, such as office materials, desks, chairs, and boxes. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.

The noise level in the work environment is often quiet but may become loud in large group settings. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that will require the employee arrive and leave as directed and may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. workday. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will be required to work occasionally in outdoor environments.
