The Department of Radiation Oncology seeks a talented and motivated individual to support our clinical efforts to design, implement, and maintain advanced software techniques and applications as part of the team-based workflow for the specification, planning, and delivery of response-driven, adaptive radiotherapy treatments.

Responsibilities*

  • [60% Effort] Develop and maintain desktop and web-based applications and user interfaces to allow the safe and efficient processing of a range of numerical and image data involved in the team-based workflow for radiation therapy treatment planning and delivery.

  • Support Michigan Medicine Radiation Oncology Department faculty and software development personnel in the design and implementation of software-based techniques for data processing, visualization and management related to planning and delivery of radiation therapy treatments.

  • [30% Effort] Collaborate in the specification, design, development, and maintenance of advanced informatics tools as required to support UM Radiation Oncology clinical protocols.

  • Develop and maintain workflow tools to automate data processing and communication.

  • Develop dashboards and web pages to provide access to real-time clinical radiotherapy data.

  • Develop interfaces to various commercial radiotherapy and enterprise-wide electronic health record systems.

  • [10% Effort] Create and edit software requirements, design, and testing documentation. Create and edit user manuals, software installation manuals, and troubleshooting guides.

Required Qualifications*

  • 5 years of software development experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.

  • Some progressively responsible programming experience is necessary.

Desired Qualifications*

  • This position requires a strong background and skills in all aspects of software engineering principles and end-to-end application development using modern design tools, with a minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience.

  • The ideal candidate has a documented background in analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of clinical software applications in the field of radiotherapy, with experience developing treatment planning system tools and applications. Experience in data and image processing is preferred.

  • The ideal candidate is an expert in developing client/server applications in C#.Net in visual studio. Extensive experience with desktop application development using various UI and database technologies is essential.

  • The ideal candidate is skilled in usability, user interface and web design.

  • A strong background in database design, database management, data mining, and data warehousing using Microsoft SQL and Oracle SQL is preferred.

  • Skills developing web-based applications onthe Windows platform is preferred.

  • Knowledge of DICOM / DICOM standards / DICOM field mapping / 3D image systems is preferred.

  • Understanding of good software design practices (e.g., unit testing, SOLID principles, clean code, refactoring).

  • Ability to use version control, specifically Git and GitLab for code management and integration with Visual Studio.net.

  • Desire and ability to learn new technologies and trends in software development practices.

  • Desire and ability to learn evolving radiation oncology workflow technologies and processes.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Background Screening
